Craig LaBan reviews Nam Phuong

The Inquirer's Craig LaBan reviews Vietnamese restaurant "Nam Phuong."

"My favorite nuoc mam was flavored with spicy ginger that lent an almost electric zap to a giant bowl of earthy duck and bamboo-shoot soup. As I stirred and the funky aroma of wet bamboo wafted up, our waitress cooed, "Mmm . . . real Vietnamese food!"

Those crunchy bamboo shoots have an almost mushroomy musk. Your taste buds need to pause a moment while they register a different key and then happily proceed. Likewise when sampling the unusual avocado shake, a creamy green whip that coats the mouth with a subtle but lasting sweetness."

Thanks for the DC love!

Why did I not find this blog last spring, when I was working in Philadelphia? Oh well...it is a great resource, and I am sure it will be of use to me sometime. I will send it to my cousin, who is living in Philly.
